Don’t get tricked by Facebook’s geo-targeting bug

Over at my company, engageQ digital, We’ve identified a bug in Facebook which controls geo-targeting posts. (If you don’t do any geo-targeting of your posts, feel free to ignore this.)

It seems that the “target” icon in the post box (“Add Targeting”) does not, in fact, restrict viewing to the geography you are targeting. For instance, if you use this and target Québec residents, people outside of Québec will still see the post.

Instead, use the “Target by Location/Language” (found under the “Public” button in the Status Update post box) — this will prevent people outside of your targeted criteria from seeing the post.
